8 Best Places to Eat in the Blue Mountains Australia

You most likely aren’t coming to the Blue Mountains in Australia for the food scene, but you’d be surprised how many delicious places there are to eat in the area. Plus, if you’re on holiday, you might as well savour every meal. Cuisine and dining out can help us discover more about a destination, and the Blue Mountains has some hidden gems.

In this post, I’m sharing 8 of the best places to eat in the Blue Mountains, Australia, including cafes, bakeries, delis, tea rooms, and restaurants. All of these places were tested and tried by yours truly on my recent trip to the Blue Mountains in November 2020.

8 Best Places to Eat in the Blue Mountains Australia

Cassiopeia Coffee

Cassiopeia Coffee is a Melbourne-style cafe who take their coffee seriously. We ordered a flat white and were both impressed. They have lactose-free milk alternatives and a small selection of baked goods. There was both indoor and outdoor seating, but we took ours to go and enjoy at The Three Sisters in Echo Park.

Address: 79 Lurline St, Katoomba
Phone: +61 2 4782 9299

Bakehouse on Wentworth

A small bakery with fantastic Australian pies and sweet treats that you can take to go on your hikes and adventures. I ordered a vegetarian quiche and Ben tried their chunky steak pie and claimed it was the best pie he’s tasted in Australia, which is a big compliment, as my man loves his pies. Also, I was impressed that our baked goods came out piping hot, so clearly, they were fresh from the oven!

Right now, you cannot eat in the bakery. It is take-out only!

Red Door at Leura Mall

This bohemian cafe gives off nothing but good vibes. When we passed by, it was bustling with customers and delicious smells wafted into the streets. Here you’ll find both indoor and outdoor seating, delicious food with big portions, and guaranteed good coffee!

As the name indicates, just look out for the bright red door at the top of this quaint high street. I recommend starting your day with a hike around the Blue Mountains and then coming back to the Red Door for a hearty, yet healthy, brunch, followed by a wander around Leura Mall’s unique boutiques.

Address: 134 Leura Mall, Leura

Megalong Tea Room

The Megalong Team Room is definitely off the beaten path but worth the journey. Here you’ll find the most incredible scones with cream and jam. This tea room is a great excuse to come check out the Megalong valley and enjoy tea while admiring the Blue Mountains from a different perspective. We enjoyed our tea and scones in their garden patio, but there is also indoor seating if the weather is poor, and you need a cozy place to hide.

Address: Megalong Rd, Megalong Valley

The Hydro Majestic

The Hydro Majestic is the fanciest hotel in town, and are famous for their afternoon High Tea with panoramic views over the Blue Mountains. Their High Teas start around $65.00 per person and are only available on weekends or public holidays. So if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to a High Tea, this is the place to do it. Reservations are recommended.

Address: 52-88 Great Western Hwy, Medlow Bath
Phone: +61 24782 6885

Yellow Deli

If you only dine out once in the Blue Mountains, make it the Yellow Deli. This unique cafe will make you feel you’re in a Hobbiton home and is one of the best places to eat in the Blue Mountains. The food and ambiance are cozy and comforting. Their soup of the day and chilli were both fantastic and warmed us up perfectly on a cool night. Plus they both came with a hot fresh bread roll. I also recommend their fresh-pressed juices and hot drinks.

Tip: After enjoying a meal at the Yellow Deli, walk across the street to a small alleyway name Beverly Place. Here you will find tons of cool street art!

Address: 214 Katoomba St, Katoomba
Phone: +61 24782 9744

Leura Gourmet

Located on Leura Mall you’ll find Leura Gourmet, which is a mixture of a deli and cafe. The front of the store is filled with delicious goodies, cheeses, and other food items you can buy to go. Or you can stop in for coffee, breakfast or lunch and admire their view from the back of their cafe.

Tip: If you plan to enjoy a picnic in the Blue Mountains, this would be a great place to buy everything you need.

Address: 159 Leura Mall, Leura

Station Bar

As the name suggests, the Station Bar is located right outside Katoomba’s train station. This pub-like restaurant is famous for its upbeat vibe and pizza menu, while its cheap beer jugs ($14) and gin cocktails ($6) draw in a younger crowd.

We ordered the ‘Zig Zag Pizza’, which had Indian-style flavours, and the ‘Faulconbridge’ pizza that was topped with marinated lamb and pumpkin. Both were great, but we loved the ‘Zig Zag’! They also have a small outdoor patio, which was bustling every night of the week.

Address: 287 Bathurst Rd, Katoomba
